Hot Shooting Braves Win over Northwestern

Last night, the Lady Braves returned to the court after a week off due to weather. Despite the cold outside, the Braves were on fire, shooting basketballs with a 59% Field Goal Effective percentage to defeat Northwestern 72-23 in a TRC match-up on the road. In the 1st quarter, the Braves shot 12 for 22 from the floor, including 4 of 10 from behind the 3-point line. Scoring came from five different players, led by Delaney Betzner, who scored 11 of her 14 points in this period. Ireland Kile also contributed 9 of her game-high 23 points in the quarter. The Lady Braves' defense initiated the offense effectively by causing 13 turnovers, resulting in a 29-7 lead. The 2nd quarter also started well for the Braves, with six different players scoring. Kile and Aubrey Stoll both added 5 points. Averie and Addie Maiben each hit 3-pointers, while Kasey Murry and Aubrey Kasier contributed field goals. Defensively, the Braves held Northwestern to 8 points, leading to a 49-15 advantage at halftime. In the 2nd half, the Braves had a running clock after their first basket. Kile continued her scoring with 9 points in the quarter. Betzner hit another 3-pointer, and Kaiser added a field goal. The Braves' defense was key in the 3rd quarter, holding Northwestern scoreless and extending the lead to 63-15. In the final quarter, the Braves used various line-ups and maintained their defensive pressure, holding Northwestern to 8 points. Offensively, Averie Maiben scored 5 points, and Kasey Murry added 4, securing the 72-23 victory. Gabby Griffis and Eleanor Boshears also contributed defensively against a taller Northwestern team. They will honor their senior players, managers, and foreign exchange students after the JV game. The JV game starts at 5:00 pm, with varsity girls at 6:30 pm and varsity boys at 8:00 pm.
