MMS Soccer Battles the Zebras

By Jonathan Cole | Apr 24, 2025 9:11 AM

The MMS Braves Soccer team traveled to Rochester to take on the Zebras Wednesday night. The matchup started with a defensive battle with the two squads tied 0-0 at the end of the first half. The Braves possessed the ball well and had a few chances to score in the first half, but the Zebras had opportunities as well with a strong counter attack. The Braves were able to get on the board in the second half after Jaxon Cole split Rochester defenders and put a nice ball in the corner of the goal to make it 1-0. Not to be outdone, Martin Chaires and Diego Jimenez each added their own unassisted goals in quick succession, giving the Braves a 3-0 lead. The final goal of the match came off of a great pass by Evan Zeiser which allowed Jaxon to knock in his second goal of the night. Xavier Waller kept the Zebras off the score sheet as goalkeeper. Although the scorers usually get the mentions here in the write ups, it was a very strong performance from our defensive line who shut down the Rochester counter attacks all night. Playing in the defensive rotation were Cohen Beebe, Levi Merritt, Caleb Barnett, Yader Aguiriano, William Friend, and Lily Barnett. Coach Wilhelm was happy with another victory. He said, "It was a really fun game to watch/coach. We had to make a few adjustments at half time and I was thrilled to see them work out for us. It was also nice to see us handle the counter attack - our defense really stepped up." The Braves move to 4-0 and host Lakeview Christian tonight (4/24).
