MMS Soccer beat the Oak Hill Eagles Tuesday night in their final match of the season. Although the turf was wet, a 2 hour break in the rain provided a fairly dry game. The scoring started as Jaxon Cole chased down a through ball from Martin Chaires, made a move around a defender, and smashed a goal into the upper left corner. The Eagles tied the score on a long free kick that slipped through our goalkeeper's hands. The second half of the game featured the Braves taking advantage of Diego Jimenez's perfectly placed corner kicks. DJ has been been using his corner kicks as a weapon all season long and today was no different with the Braves scoring 3 second half goals off of them. Cohen Beebe was able to knock two goals in from DJ's corners with DJ adding an ""Olimpico" (a corner kick that bends into the goal without being touched by another player) for the 4-1 lead late in the match. The Braves finish the season with 13 wins and zero losses. They scored 103 goals on 63 assists and only gave up 7 goals all season. The team finished with 18 out of 22 players scoring at least one goal and 12 players providing at least one assist throughout the season. Top 5 Scorers: Martin Chaires (16), Diego Jimenez (16), Jaxon Cole (15), Cohen Beebe (9), Kamarious Armstrong (8). Top 5 Assists: Evan Zeiser (13), Max Berryman (11), Diego Jimenez (7), Cohen Beebe (7), Jaxon Cole (7). Although it's fun to fill the stat sheet, it wouldn't be fair not to mention our starting defensive line and two goalkeepers that held opponents to 7 goals throughout the season. The defensive line: Cohen Beebe, Levi Merritt, Caleb Barnett and Gideon Pier. Goalkeepers: Blaine Morgan and Xavier Waller. Coach Wilhelm said, "Oak Hill is always one of our toughest opponents so it's great to get the W tonight. It's been an awesome year with a lot of improvement all around. We have great kids - on and off the field - and it's fun to coach the program. I'm excited to see our 8th graders move up to high school and be a part of the MHS team this fall!" Assistant Coach Sparks said, "Evan Zeiser is my hero." Assistant Coach Cole was not available for comment.
