The Maconaquah ladies golf program already knew it was going to be in a rebuilding year with two time state qualifier Daisy Williams and three time varsity letter winner Finley Dobbs graduating. Two more spots opened up when two other varsity letter winners did not return for the 2025 season. Even with the challenge of filling all those openings, and 90 plus degree heat, the Lady Braves played hard all day to finish their first tournament in 11th place. Junior Aubrey Stoll, now the number one player for Maconaquah, did not get off to a great start as she struggled chipping and making putts. She was able to right her round and par four of the final six holes on the front nine. A bad break on the tenth hold got her back nine off to a rough start but she fought back valiantly. As the round progressed, the heat wore Aubrey (and her teammates) down and she finished with a 95. Good enough for 14th place overall in the 65 player field. Junior Delaney Duke finished second on the Lady Braves and 29th overall with a 109. Delaney, like Aubrey, played very well in the middle part of her round, but struggled to finish that way due to the heat. She did hit fantastic drives off the 15th, 17th, and 18th tees, but missed putts stopped her from breaking 100. Sophomore Delaney Farnham was third on the team with a 131 Delaney took up the game just over a year ago and has showed tremendous improvement and tremendous potential. As is the case with most new golfers, Delaney struggles with consistency as she will play one hole extremely well and the next one will be a challenge. The expectation is that her scores will plummet once she gains more experience. Delaney was competing for the first time as a varsity golfer. Senior Jade Christopher was fourth on the team with a 138. Jade is the lone senior on the team, and like them, the hot weather wore on her as she finished her round. She played better and scored better on the front nine, but couldn’t maintain that play as the heat index increased. Freshman Brina Smith was also making her debut for the Lady Braves playing in her first match overall and playing varsity. Brian, like Delaney, has only recently taken up the game and shows tremendous potential. She hit some well struck shots and showed some short game savvy, but the heat got to her and she had nothing left in the tank for the last five holes. She finished with a 140. The Lady Braves are back in action on Monday 8/11 as they travel to Kokomo Country Club to play the Wildkats. As always, the Lady Braves appreciate the support of tall the parents, family and friends that come out to support them each match.
