The Lady Braves of the Maconaquah Girls Golf team fell to Southwood on Tuesday (August 12th) by a final tally of 226 to 219. Despite the loss, there were some early fireworks for the Lady Braves. Junior Aubrey Stoll got her first medalist honors of the season after shooting a 43 the front nine of Etna Acres. Aubrey started her match with a tremendous drive on her first hole, the par 5 fourth hole, leaving only a wedge for her second shot. She put the shot on the green and two putted for an opening birdie. Junior Delaney Duke hit the ball well, but struggled on Etna’s challenging slopped greens, as she had trouble with the putter. She also opened her round with a tremendous drive on the fourth hole, but then hit one of the trees guarding the green with her second. That was only one of the unfortunate bad breaks she got during the round. Sophomore Delnaey Farnham was third on the team with a 64. Delaney, a first year varsity golfer, carded her first ever birdied. She hit a three wood pin high on the 155 yard par 3 eighth hole. She rolled in her putt for the 2. Senior Jade Christopher was fourth on the team with a 68. She also hit a great drive off of the fourth tee with her fairway wood, but did not have much success putting. Freshman Brina Smith was fifth on varsity with a 70. Brina has made tremendous progress this and with a bit more luck with her putter, she would scored much better Freshman MacKenzie Thompson also carded a 70. She started her round well, but couldn’t’ keep her momentum going as the much went on. As always, the Lady Braves appreciate the support of the parents, family and friends who support the team each match. PHOTOS: Junior Delaney Duke prepares to chip onto the 4th green.
