The Lady Braves volleyball team finished 4-0 on the day to win the Kokomo Invitational in volleyball action Saturday. Maconaquah defeated Kokomo in the first match 21-25, 25-18, 15-11. Next up we beat Muncie Central 25-15, 25-13 to advance to the championship pool in the afternoon. Eastern was our first opponent and it was a highly competitive match with the Comets taking a tight first set 27-25, before we were able to win the second set 25-22. The final set saw some strong service and smart play by the Braves to win 15-5. The final match of the day was against Pike for the championship. In our third out of four matches that went to the decisive third set we were able to come out on top of a highly contested match 25-17, 18-25, 15-13. After numerous comments and concerns from the Pike bench they were awarded a yellow card early in the match. They were not thrilled, to say the least, with the final point in which our player blasts a ball into the Red Devil block which lands near the line right next to the up official. The line judge called it in but the call was overturned and the Braves win the tournament championship. Their fans were not very pleased, but the Braves played tough all day and showed great resilience to earn the championship trophy. Our ability to adapt and persevere during crucial moments was evident as we did not play our best volleyball but found ways to win all day. It was truly a team effort. Our serving helped us put together many scoring runs throughout the day which are necessary to win in volleyball. Our hustle and defense of the floor was solid and our passing improved each match. Playing these close matches will help us as the season progresses. The Braves are now 6-0 on the season and next travel to North Miami on Thursday
